Predicting my 2024 Spotify Wrapped
Last year, I got 4 of my top artists correct, in order. I did not correctly predict my #1 song—Alice Longyu Gao’s To my White Boy Princess was #5. I’m hoping Wrapped comes out this week; in anticipation of that, I’m going to make my predictions for my top five artists and my top song(s). Let’s see if I’m correct! Just to recap—in 2022 and 2023 my top artist was Rico Nasty, and I can predict she won’t make the top five this year, for a couple of reasons, the first being I just haven’t been as full of Rage (last year’s #10 song) this year; the second being my girl Rico just did not drop a lot of music this year. Do better, Rico! I need you!
Here are my predictions for top artist, in order:
Disturbed—I didn’t even know this band existed until 2024, but I’ve been making up for lost time like mad.
Shenseea—I need to post my review of her show that I went to in November.
Tori Amos—my all time favorite artist. I listened to quite a lot of her cover versions in the evenings.
Foo Fighters—I took my son to see the band May 1, and spent a lot of time listening to this band. Also, I’m quite certain one of their songs will be my #1, giving them a boost.
I’m going to guess either Doechii or Coi Leray (Coi was my surprise #5 last year—what can I say, she makes bops.) There is a slim chance Rico might sneak into this spot.
My #1 song is going to be The Teacher by the Foo Fighters. If I’m wrong, the algorithm is broken. It’s almost 11 minutes long, too. Dave Grohl wrote this to honor the passing of his mother, and it gave me a lot of comfort about my own father’s death.
I also expect The Sound of Silence by Disturbed, as well as Down with the Sickness and The Game by the same band, Let me Calm Down by Nicki Minaj and J Cole, Rebel by Shenseea, and Wings for Marie Parts 1 AND 2 by Tool will be in the top ten.
