Top 3 Tori Amos albums with top 3 songs for each
Tori Amos has been my favorite artist since 1993, when I was eighteen for most of the year. She has been my companion through so much, and always will be. She has provided me such comfort. She has remained in my mind in a completely different equivalence class from any other musician/singer. I’ve seen her live seven times, and I am happy to say that all three of my daughters are fans too. (Which inspires the question of who is in the next class down—I’d have to say Disturbed, Shenseea, Pink Floyd, and Todd Snider. There may be more, I do love me some Rico Nasty. (Click the last link. Trust me.))
Anyway, in the spirit of my love for Tori, I thought I’d list my top three albums of hers in my opinion, and my three favorite songs from each. (Just in case you wonder how I rounded up my top five, I have Choirgirl/Venus/Beekeeper [don’t hate me] in a three way tie. Anyway, here they are, with links to the videos:
#3. Scarlets Walk - I do love a good concept album, and I also love a road trip, so the whole concept of the album really appealed to me. Plus every song is good, I usually play this album straight through, but here are my standouts:
#2 Strange Little Girls — Tori doing covers is so unexpectedly good. She’s SO original and ground breaking that her doing covers seems so weird. But she’s SO GOOD at it. I’m still waiting on her covering Gaga’s “A Million Reasons”— that would be amazing. The only song I can’t listen to is the Eminem cover, it’s too dark. Also, I’ve seen Tori in concert seven times, and her cover of Elton John’s Daniel brought tears to my eyes. Anyway, we have covers of Joe Jackson, Lloyd Cole, and Bob Geldof here. If you’re on Spotify, look for her cover of Cyndi Lauper’s All Through the Night.
#1 Boys for Pele — I have no words for this album. This is by far my favorite album of all time. Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water approached this brilliance. There are no skips on this record.
